Woo-hoo! Tech for Luddites has made it into the top 5 finalists in the Mashable Open Web Awards for the Most Educational To Follow category. Thanks to everyone who nominated me!
Now we're on to the final round. So if you've learned anything from this blog since I started it at the beginning of this year—and I certainly hope you have—I hope you'll consider voting for it to win the whole shebang. Here's how:
- Go to the awards website. If you haven't voted before, you'll be asked to sign in using your Twitter or Facebook information. Pick one of the two options and enter your username and password.

Note: I understand that some people might be confused or uncomfortable about this. The reason Mashable is asking for this info is so they can keep track of whether you've voted before or not and it's an easier way than asking everybody to register an account specifically with them for this purpose. Giving them your info is basically the same as what you've done if you ever installed a third-party Facebook application, like Scrabble or Farmville, or signed up for a service that accesses your Twitter feed, like having it display on your blog or including it in the WeFollow directory.Mashable is a reputable site that won't use your information to spam you or sell it to other parties (it wouldn't be in their best interest as they'd lose a large part of their audience). If you're still concerned about it, I will be explaining how to remove the connection at the end of this post.
- Choose Most Educational to Follow from the "For" dropdown list and http://www.techforluddites.com from the "I vote for" one. You'll only have to do this the first time you vote—if you return on later dates by using the link above, the fields should be prepopulated.
- Click the Submit button.
Note: If you signed in with Twitter, a tweet will automatically be sent out from your account announcing your vote. If you signed in with Facebook, your status line will be updated. If you don't want that, you can go to your account and delete the post by rolling over and clicking the trash can icon (Twitter) or Remove button (Facebook).
The voting period lasts until Sunday, December 13th at midnight. You may vote once a day per category. The winners (fingers crossed!) will be announced on December 15th.
To disconnect Mashable from your Twitter account:
- Go to your Twitter account and click Settings.
- Click the Connections link at the top of the page.

- Click Revoke Access under Mashable Connect. Refresh your browser to see that it's gone from the list.
To disconnect Mashable from your Facebook account:
- Go to Facebook and click Settings > Application Settings.
- Choose Authorized from the dropdown list at the top right.
- Scroll down to find Mashable Connect and click the x at the end of the line to remove it.

- Click Remove.
Mashable no longer has access to your Twitter or Facebook information. If you're planning to vote more than once (fingers crossed! :), you might want to wait until the contest is over so you don't have to log in again each time you go back.
If you have any further questions about how this all works, let me know.
Thanks for your support!
